Behind the fences concrete is being laid, trees have flowered and burst into leaf, paths have been poured, lawns sown, pipes have been laid and lights have been installed.
These aerial photographs of the $6.6million new Town Basin park (name to be revealed ceremonially in months to come) shows the great strides being made by contractors.
New Town Basin Park
The new park will provide an important link between Whangārei’s waterfront, Hātea Loop (Huarahi o te Whai) and the central city.
It will feature an amphitheatre and great lawn for community events and general recreation, a new, smallscale Balance Park, an interactive water feature, a large kinetic sculpture and public amenities.
The park is being built on land rich in Māori and European history and these themes are reflected in the design.
