The pedestrian lighting is about to be upgraded in the main part of the Town Basin retail area.

Local contractors McKay Electrical have been awarded the $401,705.38 contract and preliminary works will start on Tuesday 27 April 2021, immediately after ANZAC weekend. It is due to finish at the end of June 2021.

The existing poles and lights are old and due for replacement and many are surrounded by tall trees that block their light. In this example the tree has grown to block nearly all of the light:

The lights’ foundations, poles, bulbs and bollards will be replaced and warm white LED lights will go in.

Work will be staged, starting at the Hundertwasser end of the area and finishing by Clapham’s Clock Museum and the Children’s Playground.

The work will be fenced off to keep people safe, and disruption to pedestrians and businesses minimised as much as possible.
