New speed limits come into effect on 12 December

Whangarei District Council resolved at a meeting on 28 October 2021 to adopt recommendations for new speed limits south of Waipu (excluding the Waipu urban area), including Waipu Cove and Langs Beach. The speed limits in this area were reviewed in accordance with the Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2017.

The new speed limits are being implemented in a two-stage process. The first group of speed limits came into force on 20 October 2022, which included Cove Road and Langs Beach.

Signage is now being installed for the second group of roads listed below. The new speed limits set out below will come into force on 12 December 2022.

The new speed limits better match the road environment and are aimed at reducing serious injury and fatal crashes on our local roads and to make our roads safer for all road users.

The new speed limits have been recorded in the National Speed Limit Register (NSLR) in accordance with the Setting of Speed Limits Rule 2022. This Register supersedes the former Speed Limits Bylaw.
