Murphy’s Bend, a notorious corner on Ngunguru Road, will be upgraded over the summer.
Safety measures at the bend already include Rural Intersection Activated Warning Signs (RIAWS), curve advisory warning signs, and Road Raised Pavement Markers (RRPMs) that warn drivers of the edges of the road at night.
The improvements will include reducing the sharpness of the bend, improving the camber, widening the road shoulder, installing a more skidresistant surface and improving visibility. When this work is done a safety barrier and road markings will go in.
Earthworks will begin early in December 2022 and the road will be re-surfaced between February and April 2023.
Variable Message Signal (VMS boards) will be installed on-site two weeks before work starts and traffic will be managed through the site as required.
