As part of the Government's Road to Zero National Road Safety Strategy, we are required to review speed limits in the Whangarei District.
We are doing this in a staged process, focusing on areas where the evidence indicates that changing the speed limit will have the greatest impact on reducing fatal and serious harm crashes and improving overall road safety.
Waipū South, Cove Road, Langs Beach and Whangārei District Beaches
We are currently reviewing speed limits in the Waipu South catchment area and speed limits on Whangarei Beaches. The review area incorporates the rural areas to the south of Waipū and to the east of State Highway 1 (excluding State Highway 1) and includes Cove Road, Waipū Cove, Langs Beach and all beaches that have vehicle access in the Whangārei District
As part of the review, we are seeking community feedback on the Proposed Speed Limits before we make any final decisions.
A drop-in information session will be held at the Waipu Surf Life-saving Club on Thursday 26th November from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Transport Safety staff will be available at this session to discuss proposed new speed limits. You will also be able to provide feedback at the session.
Submissions closed at 5:00pm on 18 December 2020.
