A map showing the wastewater improvements work being undertaken in Woodhill and Kauika Road.

A project to improve the sewer network in Woodhill is due for completion in November 2021.

What are we doing?

Over the past few months about 700m of new sewer line has been installed to improve sewer capacity in the Kauika area in Whangārei City.

The job by United Civil Construction involved constructing a new bypass line to supplement the existing 1950s sewer pipe that runs through the middle of Kauika Road and First Avenue, and replacing the section of sewer pipe through Carruth Park to Maunu Road with a larger pipe.

The work is due to finish in November and is expected to reduce the risk of sewer overflows onto low-lying properties in the catchment during very wet weather events.

What to expect?

Two-way traffic will be able to continue along Kauika Road during the project but on-street parking will be restricted during the works. Residents will be contacted directly if access is likely to be temporarily affected by the works. The job should be completed by November 2021.

Some houses may get a “do-not-flush” request while they are being re-connected to the new line. This do-not-flush requirement will only be for a few hours until the house connection has been completed. Occupants will be contacted closer to the time and be given suitable notice of this request.
