In 2023 drainage improvement works were completed on the Takahiwai Rugby field.

The next phase of the project includes the replacement of existing sports field lights, so games and training can be undertaken in low light conditions. This work will be carried out by Davco Electrical Services Ltd.

The adjacent hardcourts are also rundown and are being replacement with a fully fenced, multi-code court.

Works include removing the existing courts, installing improved drainage, laying a new asphalt court with line markings for basketball, netball, tennis and volleyball. Installation of electrical ducts in preparation for a future lighting project will also be included. This work is being undertaken by Robinson Asphalt Ltd.

Both works are part of our 2021 Active Recreation and Sports strategy which aspires to meet the current and future sport facility needs in the district.

What to expect:

Works for the lighting upgrade will start in late March 2024 with the new poles and light fittings being installed during June 2024.

The multi-code court replacement commences on 2 April 2024 and is expected to be complete by late June 2024.
