A map showing carpark upgrade at the Quarry Gardens.

Finding a place to park when visiting Whangarei’s award-winning and increasingly popular sub-tropical Quarry Gardens will be much easier now.

An $800,000 upgrade including upgrading and sealing the driveway all the way from Russell Road to the upper carpark is complete now. The upper carpark has been sealed and marked out with 19 car spaces and five bus spaces

Turning back down the hill, the road’s seal has joined with five concrete car parks that were installed during repairs to stream banks following a major storm in 2022.

The new seal is following on down to Russell Road, where the existing gravel carpark has been sealed and marked with 18 carparks.

While the Quarry Gardens Trust manages the gardens, the infrastructure is owned by Council’s Parks and Recreation Department which managed the project.
