Long Term Plan 2024-34

Consultation opens in March 2024

Long Term Plan 2024-34 logo. We are currently developing our Long Term Plan 2024-34, which outlines what we'll deliver for the next ten years, and how we will pay for it.

This process is an important opportunity for Whangārei to re-calibrate and adjust to where we are today, taking into account things like:

  • inflation and supply chain issues
  • recent weather events
  • regulatory changes and new legislation from central government
  • rising insurance and interest costs.

What we are working towards

Everything Council does is guided by our four Community Outcomes – these are based on what our community tells us is most important to them.

The Community Outcomes for this Long Term Plan were created via a series of community workshops over May to July 2023.

The four new Community Outcomes are:

  • A thriving local identity
  • A sustainable and resilient future
  • A diverse and inclusive culture
  • A great place to call home

These Community Outcomes are woven through the services and activities we provide, including things like roads, shared paths, parks, libraries, and community funding.

Long Term Plan briefings

We are holding fortnightly Council briefings to support the development of the Long Term Plan.

The briefings give the elected members a chance to work through the challenges and opportunities of the next decade with staff and develop a plan that balances the level of service our residents would like with the funding available from things like rates, fees and charges and central government subsidies.

All agendas and minutes from the briefings are available online.

How to have your say

In March 2024, we will be sharing our plan with you.  You will be able to read what’s been proposed in our Long Term Plan consultation document, look at the detail that supports it and make a submission. We would love to hear from as many in the community as we can.
