Improve your English
Knowledge of English will help you to feel comfortable in New Zealand. If you have difficulties in being understood or understanding English you can enrol in classes to improve your English.
English language classes are run by the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Home Tutor Scheme, NorthTec and private tutors.

ESOL - Home Tutors Northland Inc. offers:
- "Social English Groups" - Monday mornings, 9.30 - 12 noon. This caters for all learners of English from non-English speakers through to more advanced learners.
- Evening classes aimed at learners in the workforce or who are about to join the workforce.
- One-to-one tutoring in a learner's own home for one hour every week. This is available free to migrants who have permanent residence or who are refugees.
- "English For Migrants" programme for migrants who have prepaid for English.

NorthTec - offers English language programmes to:
- Prepare to study at secondary or tertiary level in New Zealand (including preparing to sit the IELTS examinations);
- Improve your confidence and general speaking, listening, reading and writing skills;
- Combine your English lessons with outdoor adventure.
NorthTec is an official IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Testing Centre. The general English course at NorthTec is available in part-time and full-time options. NorthTec also offers an English language course online (over the internet) to help migrants improve their English and learn more about life in New Zealand. Each student has their own personal tutor.
