Finding Work
To work in New Zealand you must have:
- citizenship in New Zealand or Australia; or
- a residence permit, work permit or a Variation of Conditions which allows you to work on a student or visitor permit.

Where to look
Work and Income New Zealand
This is the government department in charge of government benefits and Working for Families assistance for working people on low or middle incomes.
Work and Income also helps people to find jobs. See www.workandincome.govt.nz.
You must have permanent residency or a valid work permit to register with Work and Income. If you do not have permanent residency or a valid work permit you will need to apply for one directly from New Zealand Immigration Service , Free Phone 0508 558 855.

Where to look for jobs
Employment Agencies
- Newspapers: The Northern Advocate (Wednesday and Saturday are the main days for job vacancies). The Report and Whangarei Leader, free community newspapers, also list job vacancies.
- Whangarei District Libraries provide daily newspapers at all community libraries. These are free to read at the library.

It is illegal in NZ to discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, background, sex, age, disability, religion or family status, among other things.
