Key Issues

The Whangarei District has experienced significant growth over the period 2001 to 2008. This recent growth has resulted in widespread development throughout the district. The diagram below graphically illustrates the scattered nature of this development, with land development occurring throughout the district, including ribbon development along the coast and along transport corridors, sporadic development on the urban fringes, and scattered rural residential development throughout the rural and coastal areas.
