(Guide to Preparing Landscape Plans)
The landscape guidelines are a guide to preparing landscape plans and have been developed for the zoning Environments which comprise greater than 75% of the Whangarei District's landscapes. They are guidance tools for resource consent and land use consent applicants.

As non-statutory guidelines they aim to encourage best practice approaches to landscape matters associated with consent applications.
The content provides direction on the information that should be provided in any Resource Consent application. This simple, accessible resource should build capacity and understanding, and lead to improvements in the quality of applications being submitted to Council and improved development outcomes in the Coastal and Coastal Countryside environments.
Specific detail relating to things such as asset and maintenance standards, reserve requirements, as-built requirements, are addressed within other document such as the Environmental Engineering Standards, Activity and Asset Management Plans (AMP), and various relevant strategies. There are also National Guideline documents of relevance provided by MAF, Ministry for the Environment and Department of Conservation. The Whangarei District Landscape Guidelines aim to provide something specific to the Northland landscape context.

The Landscape Guidelines are now available below as a single document [PDF: 6,127kb - Large File] as well as being split into chapters and single guide sheets for easier downloading.
You will also be able to get a copy of the Landscape Guidelines from any Whangarei District Council Customer Service Centre (Forum North, Hikurangi or Ruakaka); from the Central Library, Kamo or Onerahi branch libraries. You can also phone 0800 WDC INFO and ask the call centre representative to mail you a printed copy.
