Council supports various funding rounds including:

• Creative Communities Scheme - for grants for arts based projects. There are two funding rounds each year that are assessed by an independent committee. Creative New Zealand provide council with approximately $46,000 per year for these grants.
• Recreation Development Funds Loans - This is a loan fund available for community sports and recreation groups for community facility development on land other than council reserve. Loans are available interest free to eligible organisations.
• Reserve Development Fund Loans - This is a loan fund available to community organisations and clubs for development and improvements to council owned land and reserve. Loans are available interest free to eligible organisations.
• School Scholarships - These scholarships are available to Whangarei District secondary school pupils who take up a course at a tertiary institute. Students are nominated by their school and chosen based on hardship criteria.
• General Grant Funding - A number of grants funds are offered by Council for community projects, administration of community not-for-profit organisations and community groups. Some funds are available all year round and some are granted once per year. For criteria and more specific information please contact the listed Community Development Team members.
