2010 Elections


This year's local body election will be held on 9 October 2010.

The elections are your chance to have a say in decisions the Council makes that affect us all.

The First Past the Post electoral system will be used for all elections except for the Northland District Health Board election which will use the Single Transferable Voting electoral system.

Elections for all local body authorities in New Zealand are held every three years. The elections are conducted under the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the Local Government Act 2002.

In addition to voting for Whangarei District Council, electors in Whangarei district may also be eligible to vote for the following:

Northland Regional Council
Northland District Health Board
