What bags can I use?
You can use an official Whangarei District Council rubbish bag or any other approved bag as long as it has an official rubbish sticker on it.
Official bags and stickers are sold at most dairies, convenience stores, service stations and supermarkets.
If you are using a sticker, the approved maximum bag size is 65 litres (large kleensak or black trash sack for example) and the maximum weight allowed is 13kg.
If you have a wheelie bin, please put your rubbish in a bag, which you should then place inside the bin for collection. Black garden bags (usually with green lettering) are not acceptable as these are oversize at over 100 litre capacity.
Charges
Charges for Transfer Stations and official rubbish bags for kerbside collection are set by Council annually. The charges for 2011-2012 can be found by following the link below.

What if my rubbish bags were not collected?
To assist our contractor the rubbish and recycling must be put out before 7:30am on the day of collection.
If your bags were not collected during the normal run and were out before 7:30am, please contact us as soon as possible so our contractor can arrange for the rubbish bags to be collected.
- if you contact us before 12 noon your rubbish will be collected by 5pm the same day
- if you contact us after 12 noon it will be collected by 5pm the next working day.
If for what ever reason, you put your rubbish bag out late and there are no other rubbish bags at neighbouring properties, the rubbish truck may already have collected the rubbish in your street. If this is the case we would kindly ask you to take the rubbish bag back in and wait for next weeks kerb side collection or you can take it to your nearest Transfer Station or Re:Sort Centre for disposal.
What happens if my rubbish collection day falls on a Public Holiday?
Rubbish collection days only change on Christmas Day and Good Friday. On all other public holidays the rubbish is collected on the usual collection day for your area.
Changes to rubbish collection dates for Christmas Day and Good Friday will be advertised in advance of these days.
