Payments via internet or phone banking

Our bank account number is 12-3115-0040516-002.

Council has already been set up as a bill payee with your bank. Search for "Whangarei" in the payee list on your bank's website and select one of the payment types.

Internet and/or phone banking can be used for payment of all accounts and a separate bill payment is necessary for each account being paid.

If you sell your property and purchase a new one in the District, you will need to set up new bill payments for rates and water. We recommend that payments for the old property be cancelled.

The following information will be required:

Payment type Particulars Code Reference
Rates Rates Your Property ID number Account holder's name
Water Water Your Property ID number Account holder's name
Parking Parking

The parking ticket number will be different for each payment, so use the 'One-off' payment option.

Vehicle registration number
Debtors Debtor Debtor account number Account holder's name
Dog Registration Dog Reg

Name ID number

The Name ID is  situated at the bottom right-hand corner of the form.

The information will be different for each payment.  Select the 'one-off' payment option.

If a lump sum is being paid for multiple accounts, please send a remittance advice with the details. We prefer that the remittance advice be sent to us before, or on the day you make payment.

Direct debit

Direct debit is our preferred option for land and water rate payments.

Land rates

Direct debits can be arranged to pay your land rates from your bank account on a weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis.
If there are any changes to your land rates, they will be adjusted automatically and notification sent to you in writing - you do not have to visit the bank to make the change.

Water rates

Direct debits can be arranged to pay your water accounts from your bank account weekly, fortnightly, monthly or six monthly. We monitor your payments and if your water direct debit is insufficient to clear the water charges every six months, we will contact you to review the amount being debited. You can contact us at any time to review this arrangement.

When there is a change in property ownership, the direct debit is automatically cancelled upon receipt of the sale notice from the solicitor.

If you sell your property and purchase a new one, you must arrange a new direct debit. As the existing direct debit is linked to the property (not specifically the person), this will not be automatically transferred to your new property.

Direct debits may incur penalties if they are missed or dishonoured. You will need to make manual payments to make up any dishonoured payments.

To arrange a new direct debit authority for Land or Water Rates, use the forms below or contact us.

Automatic payments

You can arrange to pay your rates or water accounts by automatic payments from your bank account. The frequency and amount is your choice. One automatic payment must be set up for each property or water account. If there is more than one property involved, several payments may be necessary.

Please be aware if you are paying rates or water accounts by automatic payment, then these rates must be paid in full by the due dates otherwise penalties will be incurred. We do not monitor automatic payment amounts and we recommend that you review the amount and frequency when each installment notice or water account is received.

We prefer customers to use our Automatic Payment Forms  to ensure the information provided is sufficient for payments to be credited to your account.
