In July 2017 the Fire and Emergency New Zealand Act 2017 came into force.
This Act now transfers the powers and responsiblities of declaring restricted and prohibited seasons and issuing associated permits to the new national organisation called Fire and Emergency New Zealand.

This new system means that most of our current Bylaw has been superseded, but the provisions around storage of combustible materials and live ashes are still in force. Council will be reviewing the Bylaw in 2018 to align it with the new national framework.
