Most councils in New Zealand have bylaws that provide regulations on keeping certain animals in the urban areas of their districts or cities.
Issues around dogs are addressed through our Dog Management Bylaw and Policy.
In December 2017, after undertaking a statutory review, Council made a new Animals Bylaw, to replace our previous one. The next review of this Bylaw is scheduled for 2022.
