As part of the Whangarei Coastal Management Strategy, Structure Plans were developed for 10 high priority coastal settlements.
A Structure Plan is an informal document that was developed after consultation with the public. Each plan seeks to guide future development in the area it covers over the next 20 years. The plans include statements about how the community wants their town or village to look in the future, the values the community holds and the special features in their area that should be protected.
It is expected that the zoning set out in the Structure Plan will be incorporated into the District Plan if and when it is required.
Landowners or developers can apply for private plan changes to the District Plan using the recommendations identified in these Structure Plans if Council does not already have such changes programmed.
