Whangarei District Council gives notice that it has approved the following Plan Change:
Plan Change 124 – Built Heritage
PC124 introduces a new consolidated district-wide chapter (Chapter H.H Historic Heritage) to replace existing District Plan Chapters 13, 58 and Appendix 3, together with consequential changes and deletions to existing District Plan provisions and Resource Area maps.
Chapter HH includes a revised Schedule of Built Heritage supplemented by the addition of the following items currently listed by Heritage New Zealand Taonga Pouhere but not currently protected by the District Plan:
- Whangarei Railway Station (former), Railway Road, Whangarei
- Railway houses (former) at 4 & 6 Railway Terrace, Morningside
- Butter Factory (former), 84-88 Bank Street, Whangarei
Other features of the plan change include revised objectives, policies and rules relating to works on (or in proximity to) scheduled built heritage items, and provisions relating to dry stone walls and signage transferred from the District Plan Environment and Subdivision chapters. In addition, the plan change promotes a combination of regulatory and non-statutory methods for fostering and enhancing awareness, appreciation and celebration of historic heritage and sense of place within the District.
The approved Plan Change will become operative on Wednesday 28 September 2016.
