Council approves leave for Mayor Cutforth

Whangarei District Councillors have approved a recommendation that Mayor Morris Cutforth, who suffered a minor stroke in February, be granted leave from 18 May to 31 August 2011.
Updated: 11/05/2011 1:54 p.m.

Mayor Cutforth, who has been working reduced hours since the stroke, requested the leave earlier this week following advice from specialist doctors and will withdraw from all Council activities for the four month period to assist with a full recovery.

Deputy Mayor Phil Halse has been appointed to chair any forums, attend meetings of Local Government New Zealand or any other meetings of external organisations that the mayor would normally attend.
