Enhanced website  was launched in December last year.

A continually developing and changing website, incremental changes since its launch in December have included a dining guide.

“The latest feature is a booking engine," said Council’s District Promotions and Tourism Manager Paul Davis.

“More and more domestic and international visitors are researching their holidays on the internet and often want to check availability and prices and then book online.

“By including the booking engine on our site, we really are providing a ‘one stop shop’ for people wanting to find out What’s On (events and activities), where to eat and plan their holiday."

Kate Malcolm from award winning operator, Dive! Tutukaka said that travellers are on the move, from one part of the country to the next, and they research online - as they go.

“Having 'Book It' on the Whangarei website means, no matter which region they are in, when they are looking to the next destination, they can book us straight away - and the decision is made. Nice and easy,” Ms Malcolm said.

Karen Lees from Whangarei’s Lupton Lodge agrees, saying that it is exciting to see that can now display individual room rates and availability.

“Instant online bookings are a vital part of our business in both the New Zealand and International marketplace. We look forward to increasing our bookings through as a result of this new facility,” Ms Lees said.

Mr Davis added that our strategy is about making Whangarei a destination of choice for domestic and overseas visitors and that means being able to offer this kind of service online.

“Of course it’s useful for locals too - encourage your friends and families and visitors to book online.

“The website is a great showcase for what’s on offer here – places, accommodation, activities, and attractions, and now it also includes dining options for that special night out,” he said.
