A new contractor is taking over valuation services for Whangarei District Council from 1 August this year.
The next triennial valuation is due to be held in the Whangarei District in 2018 and will be undertaken by Opteon.
This company currently provides valuation and DVR services to a number of councils in Australia and New Zealand, including Tauranga, Western Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Rotorua, Taupo, South Waikato and Auckland (Rodney District).
Following the expiry of Council’s former provider (Quotable Value)’s contract late last year Council called for expressions of interest in the contract.
Whangarei District Council Corporate General Manager Alan Adcock said there were two contenders for the contract who could meet all service requirements, QV and Opteon.
Following a formal appraisal Opteon was appointed for an initial period of five years, with a three-year right of renewal, until September 2025.
Opteon will have staff and offices located in Whangarei, and will handle any valuation related queries and any maintenance valuations (based on new building consents, alterations, land use consents and subdivisions) from 1 August.
Aside from the usual shifts in value that occur between valuations, the only visible difference for most ratepayers will be Opteon’s logo on the Owners Notices, advising of the new valuations following the triennial review next year. Those valuations will be used to set the rates from 1 July 2019.
“Our team looks forward to a positive working relationship with Opteon as our new valuation services provider” Mr Adcock said.
