NZTA proposes new no right turn

This page contains information about NZTA calling for submissions on a proposed change to a bylaw.
Updated: 10/04/2019 12:00 a.m.

The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) is calling for submissions on a proposed change to a bylaw that would ban the right hand turn from Tarewa Road onto Otaika Road/State Highway One (SH1).

The aim of the NZTA (Traffic Controls on State Highways (Prohibition of Right Turn from Tarewa Road) Amendment Bylaw 2019 is to make the intersection safer.

When the improvements are finished the intersection will include two northbound and two southbound lanes through the intersection with Tarewa Road. Anyone attempting to turn right onto SH1 from Tarewa Road would have to cross two busy lanes of south bound traffic and hook back into busy lanes heading north. This is a dangerous manoeuvre given the visibility, traffic speed and volumes in the SH1 lanes.

Submissions close 5pm, Friday 26 April 2019 and more information is available on the NZTA website (link below).
