Wooden sections of the Hatea Loop are getting new slip-proof surfaces.
The new resin and aggregate surface will replace the surface that has cracked and broken away from boards on the walkway over the past year.
The installer carried out some temporary repairs and investigated the problem.
The cause was tracked back to when the resin and crushed glass/aggregate mix was installed along the path from the playground to the Art Park.
The timber's moisture content was high then and with the extreme dry conditions we experienced last summer, the timber started shrinking and the resin blistered and cracked off.
The company is now replacing the surface at their expense, prolonging the life of the boardwalk.
