Onerahi cemetery is situated in Church Street (opposite Onerahi Primary School), about 10kms south east of Whangarei.
Although originally a lawn cemetery, Onerahi is probably best known for its collection of little gardens, planted and maintained by families on the plots of loved ones.
Originally called the Grahamtown cemetery, it was four hectares of crown land vested in the Onerahi Council for the purposes of a cemetery. Only one hectare is now used as a cemetery and in 1957 the land became controlled by the Whangarei Borough Council after the dissolution of the Onerahi Town Board.
