Papakainga housing policy
Papakainga is a form of housing development which occurs on multiple-owned Māori land as defined by the Te Ture Whenua Māori Act 1993.
We have developed a policy in the District Plan which clearly defines processes and provisions to enable papakainga housing subdivisions and residential construction on Māori land.
The development of the papakainga housing policy will allow Māori to utilise their ancestral lands in a way that will provide social, cultural, spiritual and economic benefits.
