Advisory Groups

This page contains information about Council calling for up to 36 people to join our three advisory groups.
Updated: 1/02/2019 3:50 p.m.

Would you like to help Council by making a contribution from the point of view of people who are ageing, young or disabled?

This summer Council is calling for up to 36 people to join its three advisory groups.

Existing members are strongly urged to reapply for positions and we are looking for new members.

The campaign to recruit new members follows a review of the groups we completed this year.

It was time to:

  • look back on achievements of the groups,
  • identify what has worked well,
  • consider changes in the community and Council over the years and
  • decide where to go from here.

To make things more straight forward for the groups one set of terms of reference have been developed that apply to all three groups.  The terms include:

  • new membership criteria
  • a new appointment process,
  • setting strategic agendas and
  • developing work programmes.

The aim is to enable the advisory groups to provide effective and proactive advice, and forge even stronger engagement with Council.

Advisory Groups Terms of Reference [179kb]

Memberships will be for a term of two years, with the possibility of reappointment for one more term only.

We are looking for diverse membership across all advisory groups.  Members will be selected as individuals, not as representatives of organisations, and must have lived experience relevant to the group applied for.

The Positive Ageing Advisory Group also welcomes people who have extensive experience working with senior citizens.  Groups must also include membership that brings Te Ao Maori to the fore.

Not only will Council and various communities gain from the input these groups give, the members of the groups gain insight into Council’s processes and how to have influence.

All members of the public who fit the criteria are invited to apply for membership when a call for new members goes out to the public after the final meetings of the current groups in December 2018.

Current members are strongly encouraged to reapply.

Applications for Disability Advisory Group and Positive Ageing Advisory Groups closed on Friday 1 February.  You have time until Friday 15 February to apply for the Youth Advisory Group.

Please complete an application form (link below) or pick up a copy of the application form from our Customer Services Centre at Forum North.
