What are notified consents?
Resource consent applications may be publicly notified under Section 93 of the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) if the environmental effects are deemed to be more than minor and the written approval of all parties deemed to be adversely affected by the proposal have not been obtained. Publicly notified applications are advertised on the Council website (this page) and by newspaper. Anybody can make a submission about an application.
What does 'Notification' mean?
The RMA sets out the criteria for making a decision to notify (or not to notify) a resource consent application. The act contains a presumption in favour of public notification of resource consents, unless Council is satisfied that the effects on the environment that a proposed activity or development may have will be no more than minor.
The idea behind the notification process is to enable the community to be involved in the decision making process on applications that may affect them. You can find notified resource consent applications under the section 'Notified Resource Consents' on this website.
