One Way Door Policy

This page contains information on the One Way Door Policy affecting all licensed premises.
Updated: 26/09/2016 9:09 a.m.

From Tuesday 7 April 2015 all licensed premises in the Whangarei Central Business District (CBD) will operate a One-Way-Door system from 1.00am until closing time.

This means that if you leave a licensed premises in the CBD (restaurant, tavern, club, bar, pub) after 1.00am you cannot re-enter that premises, or enter any other licensed premises, in the CBD.

Patrons are encouraged to come into the CBD earlier to enjoy the hospitality offered by licensed premises and to plan their night out.

The One-Way-Door system is designed to reduce alcohol abuse and increase the safety of people in the CBD later at night.

Business owners are required to operate the One-Way-Door system as a condition of licensing.

The One-Way-Door system is part of new licensing controls in the Whangarei District which includes a 1.00am closing time for all licensed premises across the district which are outside of the CBD.

Licensed premises in the CBD can stay open until 3.00am but must enforce the One-Way-Door system after 1.00am.
