From April 2015 a one way door system was introduced for all licensed premises in the Whangarei Central Business District (CBD) from 1.00am until closing time.
This means that if you leave a licensed premises in the CBD (restaurant, tavern, club, bar, pub) after 1.00am you cannot re-enter that premises, or enter any other licensed premises.
Patrons are encouraged to come into the CBD earlier to enjoy the hospitality offered by licensed premises and to plan their night out.
The One-Way-Door system is designed to reduce alcohol abuse and increase the safety of people in the CBD later at night.
The One-Way-Door system is part of new licensing controls in the Whangarei District which includes a 1.00am closing time for all licensed premises located outside of the CBD.
Licensed premises within the CBD can stay open until 3.00am but must operate a One-Way-Door system after 1.00am.
