This page contains useful hints and news items about how to use our Geographical Information System (GIS).
Updated: 1/11/2011 10:37 a.m.

Item 1: Parcel areas

Please be aware that the area as reported in the Property Identify or the popup is a GIS geometric calculated area and is not the Certificate of Title (CT) legal area.

Clicking further through to the Rates Information and Assessments will display a Rating Area. For single parcel rating assessments, this will be the CT area, but for multiple rating parcels, like farm blocks, it will be a total area as covered by the rating assessment valuation. Consult your CT and survey plan for the exact area.

Item 2: Insurance companies

Do not use the area measure tool in our GIS to measure house sizes for fire insurance premium purposes. The aerial photos may not show the current house configuration and it is not accurate enough for insurance purposes.

Item 3: Archaeological sites

Archaeological sites show as symbols: round circles for accurately confirmed sites and squares for older, less accurate data.
The site extent or size is not indicated by the size of the circle or square symbol but rather that the archaeological site is approximately in the vicinity. A site visit should be undertaken for more exact information.

Field notes (Site Record Form) and further advice and help may be obtained locally from the NZ Historic Places Trust (NZHPT) in Kerikeri. Phone: +64 9 4017947. Quote the New Zealand Archaeological Association (NZAA) metric ID which is the label that appears in the middle of the archaeological symbol on the GIS map when you zoom in.
You can also visit the NZAA website and see the Contact page there for the various District Filekeepers. Follow the link below.

Hints:

Please try out using the ID tool and double clicking on a parcel or just holding your cursor over a parcel until you get the popup. Then click on the ‘Click for Rates Details’ link. Follow any other links on the assessment record to see a breakdown of the rates.

The ID tool can also be used to click on contour lines to show the elevation information. To turn on the Contours, click on the Land Resources Tab, and then on the Layers tab and then on the Contours ‘tick’ box.
